Lancero Rodriguez squinted across the dusty square of the city.
He, along with the other lancers of his company had
spent an entire day preparing for the yearly parade
that marked the recent statehood of California, and now,
they were anxious to start.
On this day the lanceros donned their gala full dress,
with the warm California sun glinting off gold lace and
lance points alike. The richly clad lancers made
a magnificent display.
Lancero Rodriguez sat up proudly as his captain raised
his hand to start the parade, and moved out smartly,
convinced that every senorita in the crowd would be
watching only him. fo
